I would apply because I had moderator experience, though I've only been on the site for 4 months? I don't think I've become errrrr...trusted?....

I would gladly apply myself, but I have no experience being a forum moderator. I have experience being a Chat Room mod by that chat has been closed down for years. Should I apply?

I strongley recommend to those applying:

BE ACTIVE FOR A LONG TIME. Don't sign up if you're ganna work a lot for 2 months and then quit. Only sign up if you're going to stay at it for at least half a year. So make sure RL has room for this.

What if you don't post as much on the forums? Does that take down your chances of becoming a "Mod"?

You never know unless you apply. Just follow the rules and apply.

Not too much. If you only post a few a week over a few months it adds up. And this way people see that you don't post one or two word anwsers. Its simply quality vs quantity.

I'd just like to take the chance to add on to what BTU said. It's obviously going to hurt your chances if you aren't an active member on the forums, however, coming on the forums often enough to be known, and posting relatively good posts will work in your favor. We're looking for quality moderators, not people that post a huge can of spam... Yum!

Just a question about the position; do you have to be a long standing member of the forums or does experience speak for itself? The reason I ask is because I was a member of animesuki for 8 years and a moderator for 6, we get about 150 to about 200 people on at a single time and it was a daunting task but we all banded together and managed to get the job done, it was fun. I left the site because it was almost all subbed based and I'm a ENG dubbed fan so I found other places to go and fit in. I was also a moderator at Otaku Center for a year or so as well, so I have tons of experience in the field. Just wondering. Later fello Otaku's!

Experience! That's definitely a plus in applying for this position. In my position, I base it almost equal to activity on the forums. A large amount of experience will definitely help you in acquiring this position.

Questions and concerns only please. Not for random discussion on the topic.

Alright I found the forum I was a mod on. Its been dead since 2004 though. Would you prefer it if it was a VBulletin forum over anything else?
And would my inactivity be a problem if I applied? I mean if I had a reason to always login, I would.

Thanks for the info, I sent in a resume to Wolf like asked in the first post in this thread, I guess we will see what happens. Lot's of good people here, I'm sure it's impossible to pick who makes the staff, I remember on one forum I was a moderator at they made me responsible for promoting members into forum moderators and it was always hard to pick staff members because I didn't want to hurt anyones feelings, but when dealing with issues such as staffing a forum you got to have a thick skin, the same can be said for the members applying too, thick skin is a must.

I had a concern posted that is now MIA.

PM sent to you

And responding to it. Experience does matter. We want people to know what they're doing, and aren't going on a rampage of deleting posts that shouldn't be deleted (or just the opposite, not deleting any spam). We want a team of competent individuals who know what they're doing.

Your question confused me a bit; the second one. Are you saying would your inactivity on our forums be a problem or inactivity on the forum you were a mod on? If the former, then yes. It's definitely going to be a problem if you can't remain mildly active as a moderator. It the latter, then maybe. It's going to hurt that you won't have any proof/confirmation that you truly moderated, but anything you can give us as proof would help (ie. screenshots).

Your question confused me a bit;

Lets see if I can clear it up a bit then. The forum I was on was a Proboards forum, I am still listed as a mod on it, but only in one section. Would it be better if you had experience as a mod on a VBulletin forum over one like Proboards?

Hope that's a bit better to understand.

How will the new moderator be chosen out of the candidates? I assume the person will be chosen by the staff, but how exactly?

Doesn't really matter. I believe the interface is rather similar. That's not really the reason why were asking for experienced applicants though. It's because we want people that know how to work with a community and a team.

Experience is a good thing, but it should not be a requirement. It's not hard to learn how to be a good moderator, honestly, I would know. I'm pretty sure you weren't born into this job. If every small forum that needed new mods would only take mods with previous experience, where would they all come from? They have to start somewhere.

Someone fits all the other requirements, you shouldn't reject them just because they've never done it before. Sometimes the best choice actually is someone who has no prior experience.

As for being sure they moderate correctly, that's why you have (or if you don't, you should) standards on how to moderate what types of offenses and a staff board to discuss things like that. Also, it'll help if I know: Can Moderators see the Recycle Bin of deleted posts and set posts to invisible?

Edit by btu: I took out the parts where you were insulting

Surprisingly, I was born into the job. Born n' raised here ;)

We don't want individuals who don't have a tad bit of experience with a community. We aren't worried about people not knowing how to do things like deleting posts, closing topics, etc. What we mainly want experience for is so they know how to work with a team of staff members on a forum. It's extremely beneficial if we know the applicant has taken the time to be a moderator for x amount of months. We've had so many people on our staff come and go, it's ridiculous.

We don't necessarily reject the person either. If they're active members of our forums, they most like have been looked into. We only contact those of our members who are exceptional ones (TheCaptain as an example), and offer them moderating positions. Otherwise, they must have experience.

Conversation over. Any more posts regarding this topic will be deleted.

One thing I can definatly help out with along with moderating is adverising and pulling in people to both the website and the forums, after being on multiple messageboards for many years I have grown quite the collection of friends throughout the years, mostly ENG dub anime fans, many of which would probably love this place. Heck, even if I didn't get picked for the position I would definatly let them know about this place because the smaller sites could always use a nice boost in members and viewership, I'd be happy to help. Using the right avenues this place could definatly "boom" and become a heavy hitter within the anime community!

Any advertising we appreciate it. Also if you want to let you friends know about here thats awsome too. I don't know 100% the direction the admins want this site to go but the more people the better.

To All: As of now we are just looking for a Forum Moderator. :) If you got special abilities just pm a admin
