View Full Version : Whats your political party?
What political party do you belong to and why? Also what are key items in your party compaired to others?
lets debate the rest :)

I used to be an independent and then a libertarian, but now I consider myself a liberal and a member of the Democratic Party. However with that being said, I don't take crap from either side of the isle, and will never support a candidate simply because he or she claims to be a member of my party. If I feel a Democrat is acting out of line or not living up to the principles that he or she campaigned on, I will subsequently criticize and skewer them without relent, which is probably why I'm disappointed with about 95% of the party right now, including the Obama administration, but eh, what can you do? :P
Anyway, I also feel that stubbornly clinging to any one set of ideals regardless of the facts is not rational or healthy, so I am open to changing my views away from liberalism if in the future I come to a better understanding of what is in the best interest of the country.
Before I can answer your other questions though, what do you mean by "key items" in your party compared to others? Can you be a little more specific?
Well ... I kinda belong to the purple party, but im registered republican. I just wanted to have people compair their partys and views on each thing in their party.

I am an Independent, and by independent I mean I don't like the ideas of the left or right wing, but nobody cares what I think we should do and so I don't vote.

I am, and proud to be, a democrat.
I just think that the republicans are corrupt.

Does one need a political party? I do not have one. I was called a filthy liberal by a few people in 2008 because I told a few people I voted for Obama (bad idea to say this at a primarily rich kid, and therefore republican, high school). I do not follow a party, mostly because of my views on a few topics. However, I do not feel that one should just blindly pledge allegiance to a party (blindly may be poor word choice, but you get my point), but instead should look at what candidates are offering and see which one betters the country and betters your status in the country (as someone on the lower end of the economic spectrum, I felt Obama's plans helped people in my situation more than McCain's would have). Of course, the poor have traditionally been Democrats, so maybe am one.

Yeah, im not a registered anything. I dont follow politics nor do i(well cant really) vote. Even if there is something that i can vote against that can directly affect me adversely, i dont care. To me, politics are a massive waist of time because most of the time it seems like its just people with differing opinions yelling at each other about how the other person is wrong. Well, i guess its really the crazies(extreme left or right) that do that, not everyone.

proud to be a moderate republican, seems to be dying breed, standing firm in my own Conservative beliefs but also having the ability to understand other stands and ideals

I'm in a similar situation to you in that I'm a poor kid in a rich kid's school, but the difference is that I consider myself a republican. I disagree that you should vote for someone with the sole intent to better your status. If you really want to make the rich more equal to the poor, than we should just become a communist country. Otherwise, there will always be rich, and there's nothing that can be done about it rather than tax them absurd amounts of money. They earned it, so it's their money.
I am conservative in almost every light (with gun control being the main point I divert), but I don't just side with Republicans. Yes, I think Obama is an inexperienced liar who made far more promises than he can ever hope to fulfill, but it is a liberal's duty to promise change, after all the definition of a liberal is that they desire change in government. It just so happens that Obama is an idealist that sucked many in with talk of change. Don't get me wrong, I have a negative opinion of about 95% of politicians. Of course Bush was an idiotic conservative who neglected his much smarter consultants in many instances. And of course McCain is dumb for choosing Palin as his VP. He bashed Obama for having no foreign policy experience, and then here comes Palin, "I can see Russia from my house." For the record, McCain was my third pick for Republican nominee, behind Romney and Huckabee.
Politicians are a necessary evil in our system though, even if most of them are %^&*(). It's just a matter of which of them you think is capable of running the government. The qualified are few and far in between.

Dems are just as corrupt.

What is the purple party? Is it just a branch of republicans? (like libertarian is to democrats)

Personally, I like the World's Smallest Political Quiz (http://www.theadvocates.org/quizp/index.html). It's short, simple, and accurate.
http://www.theadvocates.org/quiz-score/draw.php?p=10&e=2
That's what I got.
Purple party is a party that was started cause it didn't like the direction all other partys were going in. In fact, http://www.purpleparty.com/ is their site. Im not the best at explaining, but simply they use commons sence.
Edit - By the way on that poll you put up Minisets I scored far edge right on conservative.

The thing is "common sense" is not always applicable when it comes to politics. There's a lot of gray area issues, and issues where one action may seem the most logical and obvious, but is in fact totally wrong.
Cool that you took the quiz though. Did you find it accurate for you or do you disagree with your placement?
I'll be posting some comparisons of my party with others later.

Didn't find it totally accurate. It barely placed me in the right wing, which is what I associate myself with, and nearly placed me in the middle. My friends and family would have definitely put me all the way to the right and possibly off the chart.

I dislike politics. To few who stand actually comprehend what should be stood for. Monarchy, of some description is the closest thing I can come to when attempting to put my mind on a set of politics that work. What we have will do though, if something is truely wrong, than another will correct it I believe.

Monarchy? Why? I guess you'd rather have old leaders pick the new ones? The problem with monarchies is that they always end up pissing the people off, like the French.
And I agree that the whole point of our government is so that people can correct it without a rebellion.

I suppose a monarchy or "dictatorship" because then all the ideas and decisions are behind one person. The only downside is that the one person in question would have to be the right person.

Significant necromancy, but interesting thread, pity it went inactive before I came.
But according to the quiz, which fits how I am usually, I'm pretty much a centrist with maybe a bit more on the left side.
Well I thought I was a registered democrat, but I got a form to fill out in the mail telling me to register. I still have the receipt I got from the DMV saying that I'd registered....
I love my dysfunctional state ^.^
As for the short quiz from Mini...I got this.
http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u21/LittleVampireGirl/drawphp.png
Which seems fairly right. But I think that a quiz that only asks 8 questions can't truely tell what political group a person belongs to. I mean a person could have Liberal views on just those questions, and is hard-core Conservative on everything else.

Actually, according to what the Internet says, that short quiz is actually one of the more accurate ones out there.
The other one I attempted, I definitely had times where I wanted to say "I don't agree or disagree" when they only had Strong Disagree, Disagree, Agree, and Strongly Agree.

Maybe because the quiz does ask the questions which show the fundamental differences between the parties. I mean like individual freedoms, Military, Welfare, there are things that the parties fight over all the time. But theoretically there could be some one who is very liberal on these things, but all-in-all is a conservative.
What use is a quiz that doesn't have a "I have no strong feelings either way" answer as well? It's like saying "YOU HAVE TO BE LIBERAL OR CONSERVATIVE! THERE IS NO OTHER WAY!!"
But, like I said, this quiz pegged me pretty well.
