Comments on other peoples lists:

Fruits Basket didn't do it for me. While I can't say anything really bad about it I didn't find it to be that emotional or exciting. I know a lot of people like it a lot so I am not going to say your wrong whoever puts it top 3 but I definitely don't see it.

Eureka 7 is really good. Probably in my top 15 romances.

Negima anime I hated so Idk why thats in a top 3. The main character's voice is irritating and I couldnt even finish the show after like 15 episodes. I only saw the remake of the first one so Idk about the first one. But I doubt its much better.

Onegai Teacher or Please Teacher! was also one I didn't really like. I finished it but I was glad to get it done with when it was over. And then their indirect sequel off of that Please Twins! was also stupid.

Clannad I never saw so I can't say much but its supposed to be really good so I am sure it deserves a top 3 placing. Considering it comes from the makers of Air and Kanon too. I don't watch subs though so unless they ever come out with a dub I wont watch it.

I haven't seen KimiKiss - PureRouge, Kashimashi, and Itazura na Kiss as well. They are all sub-only. I know cuz I know just about every good romance anime that isn't dubbed lol. So I can't comment on them.

The ANN review says the first couple of episodes arent really great. But in the review of the last DVD it basically turns around and says its amazing. Even though I find the whole thing amazing maybe thats how it will work for you.

You should atleast watch 10 episodes of something before you give up on it. I watched Negima like halfway through before I gave up on it even though it was sooo stupid the whole way through to that point.

The ANN review says the first couple of episodes arent really great. But in the review of the last DVD it basically turns around and says its amazing. Even though I find the whole thing amazing maybe thats how it will work for you.

If you want to cut out all the other arcs just watch the movie. Its basically the mizuzu arc retold in a different way. Different ending too which I actually prefer. But I still choose the series over the movie.

Yeah i watched the movie, too! (rented it from the library)... I REALLY didnt like the animation, it was lacking. But the storyline... was better. It showed mizuzu and yukito of being more... as lovers. It was also good becasuse Yukito didnt turn into a crow, (like he did in the anime) which made me VERY confused.

Gotta tell you, I gave Air a fair shot, and after 5 episodes, nearly half the show, it was still not doing anything for me. Maybe I'll go back and try to see what makes so many people like it.

Tsubasa also put me to sleep.

As for romance anime, of the hundred something anime I've seen, only a handful have really been romance anime.

1. Peach Girl
I was offput by the girly look of the show initially, but wow, this was really a great anime, and one of the only shows I've given a 10.

2. Ouran High School Host Club
I'm not sure if you'd really consider this a romance anime as much as a comedy. If not, let's go with School Rumble, which is no Ouran High, but still a good show.

3. Chobits
There were some lamer moments and plot devices, but overall it was a good show. Close tie with Eureka 7 for me.

I'd also give an honorable mention to Sakura Diaries. It's been an eternity since I've seen it, though, so I can't really remember how good it actually was.

I disagree with your Negima and Please Teacher thoughts.. Although Negis voice is INCREDIBLY irratating you have to get past that fact, and also, I HATED Please Twins,.. i think it was a complete let down in comparason to Please Teacher.. especialy because each episode was almost seperated from the others and had NO character or plot development.. and the ending was HORRIFIC...
EDIT: Ohh and to Claes i agree Fate/Stay Night is an AMAZING series but i think they could have made it a bit longer.. and the ending almost nearly brought me to tears.. i was hoping for Saber to go back to the boys time.. :"(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((9

i agree 100% on Fate Stay Night <3

havnt watched to many animes yet only 8 =(
but of those 8 ive liked the romance in: (somewhat of an order at least for first 1 since it was a romance)

1. Rumbling Hearts (a tragic romance anime, prolly while i liked it so much. Kinda got me hooked on romances.)

2. Fate Stay Night (once again kinda tragic it ended even tho i kinda saw it comming.)

3. Elfen Lied (short and sweet, if thats what u want to call it. Nice story line, but somewhat confusing at first, action in it and romance. what every guy likes no? it would rank #1 since it was the first dubbed anime i watched but it was shorter and not technicaly a romance like Rumbling Hearts but ties with Fate Stay Night imo. a must see if u like drama/romance, action, and a fast pace anime! <3<3

1) Ah My Goddess ( my first romance anime i saw and was what got me hooked)

2) Ai Aori Aoshi ( a very good anime and nice story line, leaves loose ends though at the end)

3) Shuffle! ( just finished and i thought it was great)

Read the Ai Yori Aoshi manga. The anime cuts out a lot of stuff and changed the ending, if you can even call it an ending. The manga is way better imo. The anime had to change the ending though since they werent finished making the manga when Enishi came out.

See thats where I lost intrest as soon as I hit the OVA's I just couldn't be arsed. I mananged to watch Negima all the way through, but was kinda weird baring in mind all these girls have a little thing for a ten year old... Anyway back on topic In strict order:

1. Kanon 2006 (easy only thing to bring a tear to my eyes in a long time)

mmm well.. i havent really watched any romance anime because im a girl and have 3 bros.. and well, even when i watched Fruits Basket they picked on me hardcore when they saw me on the computer with it going.. so yeah i stuck to more actiony anime.. =\ but yes, fruits basket is more funny than romance..
i did however read some manga from my school library.. Chobits was very *ahem ahem* strange.. but also quite cute lol. i havent actually finished it yet (im gonna when school starts back up..)
uh Hana-kimi started off akward.. ha ha on second thought, it remained akward lol but i still really loved it =] basically in it a girl dresses up and goes to an all boys school in order to get close to her hero, a high jumper named Sano. =]
mmm i started Tsubasa and got throught like 3 books.. the first one was pretty much confusing as hell.. but i sort of figured it out lol. and then it went kinda boring .. yeah.

Full Metal Panic! Has a romance story going on while having alot of action... Personally one of my top 3 animes :)

lol is this a serious question? There's just as many action romances as normal romances. Heres a few:

Samurai X: Trust & Betrayal (OAV) - Best OVA, awesome fights.
Rurouni Kenshin (TV) - Sequel to Samurai X, not as much romance but there is some more towards the middle end though.
Elfen Lied (TV) - Not action as much as bloddy mess gore stuff.
Eureka Seven (TV) - Mecha action romance, best mecha in my opinion.
Fate/Stay Night (TV) - Good, plus a new movies coming out for this.
Tsukihime, Lunar Legend (TV) - Best Vampire romance, plus theres fighting :)

another good action romance is Mamoru-kun ni Megami no Shukufuku wo, although the action doesn't come in until a little later. People have problems with the fact that the protagonist looks young, but I have no poblem with it. Another action/ecchi is Negima manga. GREAT MANGA, best I've ever read.

Both of the Ef's are absolutely amazing so I highly recommend them to anyone who likes the romance genre. I personally enjoyed the first one better than the sequel though. The 2nd one is a lot more tragic, disturbing, and just all around gloomy. The 2nd one is both a sequel and prequel to the first. In the 2nd's past part if someone watches it they will know what I am talking about.

I admit that some .hack series are not full,complete romance animes. (Twilight, Liminality) But with Sign and Roots (Roots most so) the main character's love for another is a big part of the plot, so that's why I consider them to be sort of a off-beat romance.

Yeah these two are pretty good. School Rumble is hilarious, and Suzuka was also good. Might have been one of my favorites if it continued like the manga did. I recommend reading it if you really enjoyed the anime.

Naruto is one of those anime that is so long it can have a bit of everything in it. There are quite a few episodes in it that are drvien entirely by the romance aspects of it. It is very much like Inuyasha in this sense. However, while they both have some romance aspects in them, they are not really romance anime. But, if you think they are romance anime, no one has said what makes an anime be romance-y.

Finish it, it has a satisfying ending (To me at least). Although I did hate some of the characters actions along the way.

I dont know whether or not it was "truly romantic" but the ending was heartbreaking, so I don't know if you would call that romance :crying:
