So, does anyone like to write? I mean short stories, to use a journal etc. Obviously the forums are something you write in, so that would definately count if you like to write. Same with blogging.

I love to write and if I have some good stories I write em down. I also keep a journal, but even though I like to write, when I try to write in my journal everyday thers not much to right at all. thats why I wait a few days to a couple weeks and wait until then to write so that there IS stuff lol.

I can write and well too, but I simply don't...
I've kinda noticed that girls have much more of an urge to just write things.

I write, but Short Stories is impossible. I'm too much of a deep thinker that I'd finally come up with an ideal short story but then develop it so much it becomes a novel. :mad0218: Now I have dozens of novel ideas and NONE of them have been completed. One series is coming along nicely though. I'm already editing the first 550 page volume and am about 200 pages into the second. It may end up being six books. :jawdrop1: I didn't plan it to be this long!!!! :blushing:

WOW. Really Phantom? I myself have a novel started, which originally was going to be a short story... But, with Romance novels... not exactly possible... It is, but it wouldn't be good at all and very rushed.

I've been trying to get into writing, but it hasn't really worked out yet. I can think up a story and where I want it to go, but when it comes to characters, I have no idea on what names to give them.

It's odd, I love to write romance, and I'm a guy, but people say jmy writing style suits more of a female romance fantasy.... LOL

I started writing a book (it started as an English project), but I have yet to get back to it. 13 read the part that I did write and he said it was good.

I love reading and I love writing, but I hate reading what I've written and I DESPISE writing what I've read about.

Rushed is bad. Thus why I hate short stories. They hamper details which is my specialty. I personally like to immerse the reader.

I've been trying to get into writing, but it hasn't really worked out yet. I can think up a story and where I want it to go, but when it comes to characters, I have no idea on what names to give them.
My suggestion: don't worry about the names until you've developed their character. Just pick the best one you can think of and use it until you think up a nicer name or one more suiting of their character. For example, a wealthy, handsome young man who is very well mannered should have a fancier name like "Raphael" one of my personal favorites. A street gangster or a ruffian who talks the common dialect and tends to get into fights should receive a more common name and one that can be stated in one syllable. Something like Jack, Rick, Mat, and something that sounds slightly choppy. Something like Seth may not fit a hothead. You can also look up names that actually mean a characteristic of the character. In the Novel series I'm working on "Moonlight Sonata" I usually look up names like that. Engel is a German youth whose like a Lelouch or Light character: has good intentions but goes about it in a villain manner at times. Because of this double nature I decided on the German 'Engel' which translates to the English 'Angel' whom could be of heaven, or the fallen. It's the same with terminology. You'd be shocked how many times I've changed names and terms. It's like the editing process. So just throw out a name, start writing and who knows. You might write then next Great American Novel :laughing2dw:

It's odd, I love to write romance, and I'm a guy, but people say jmy writing style suits more of a female romance fantasy.... LOL
Don't worry about that. It takes a flexible author to write that way. I'm considering a story where the main character is female.

Unless im writing poetry, all of my writings get WAY longer than intended. i always hated writing stories for school cuz i never had time to finish xD i was supposed to write a half page short story type thing once and it turned out to be 15 pages front and back. that happens every time. i started a book in like 6th grade and have worked on it off and on for the past 7 yrs... well actually havent worked on it in like 2 yrs. guess i got a writers block. several of my works are on www.writing.com
if anyone is interested its a great site where you can post your work and have others read, critique, and rate it. you can also do all kinds of special options like start a story and provide alternate endings for a reader to choose and then the readers take turns continuing the story. (theres a ton more things you can do with it)

Oh wow, I'll have to take a look at these stories being posted sometime! I absolutely love reading; it's one of my favorite hobbies. Unfortunately, college and work don't allow as much time to read as I'd like, but I do enjoy it very much so.

Thanks for sharing your ideas, everyone. I'll have a great time diving into your tales when I can. :)

As for me, I like to write a little bit myself too. Haha, in school I never had problems with word lengh minimums for papers and such...it was the maximums that foiled me! :laughing2dw: I've brushed Fanfiction.net on occasion too, have an account, and unfortunately don't use it as much as I'd wish. I just like to write in general, everything from research papers (if it's an actual topic I'm enjoying learning about, of course) analysis, short stories, poetry...it's really fun to put your ideas into a format that can be comprehended by someone else.

My favorite is fantasy, and I'd love to publish my own novel someday. I have tons of little ideas and scenes whirling around my head for all sorts of stories, but of course the hardest part is simply just sitting down and making yourself type it all out. Not only does it take time, but it takes a lot of motivation too.

Do not tell me that! I start college is a month, I do not want to have to not read. It makes up like 1/3 of what I do!

Oh, you get to read plenty, just quite often times they are things you'd rather set aside and completely forget about. :pinch:

I brought several novels I was hoping to get through during my first year of college. I touched none of them. I blame chemistry.

I havn't written any fanfiction, but, I have been interested in doing so. I'm just not sure how to go about it. And sorry Claes... once you start college... you won't have time to do much of anything else. It bites extremely.

I did the math last night, factoring in sleep (anywhere from 4 to 8 hours, so I split the difference and used 6 for this), class time, and the amount of studying you are supposed to do, I have 75 free hours a week. But of course, it will be taken up by papers and the like, won't it.

I'm actually taking a writing course, intro to sci fi. The description said we will read different scifi books and learn to write sci fi. Love classes where you get to read good books.

I cant believe that theres actually a school course on sci fi. There should be a school course on reading manga, manga plotlines, and the study of manga. I would call it: intro to manga.

I'll just say this: there are days where you feel you have all the time in the world for anything. And then other times, you feel like there aren't enough hours in the day to get anything done, and it downright sucks. :pinch:

But it'll be fun. There's a lot of hard work, but there's a lot of fun too. I can't wait to head back in August.

Well let me guess Claes, you don't have a job right? That will make things a LOT easier on you. So then you will be able to have enough time for homework and papers. I myself had to work and go to school. And I had to work on my papers on my breaks and lunches... Which... didn't help... at all... but I agree with lildragon, you'll feel at one point that everything is all peachy keen, then you'll just wanna kill people. lol. but usually its easy during the beginning and ending of the semester. and hard during the middle. at least thats how it was for me lol.
